Today, millets are a buzzword. Everyone is talking health, nutrition, safe food. Rewind to the mid 90's and it was an unknown term, associated with those who could not `graduate' to the wheat and rice that became an aspiration! ⁣ Many of these communities lost their inherent immunity - blood counts were at a ridiculous 3-4 and doctors shocked that they were even walking, forget about the physical labor that their lives demanded - venturing into the forests, collecting and harvesting produce!  ⁣ The realization was painfully brought home when we realized that we could not even find seeds in...

Hands at work

Krishna, the gentle giant, ever soft spoken but with a heart of gold. An anchor for his honey hunting team, his under the breath murmurings, a source of great mirth for all around! He was a great beekeeper too - a rare feat for a honey hunter and a forager. When silk cotton ginning was to be done, he would lock himself up in a small room and hum away to glory. A great friend to many of us, he will live long in our hearts!

In the early days, exhibitions were our lifeline - cajoling, pushing our way, into any opportunity that came our way!  ⁣ Still finding our feet, still finding the right product portfolio, that would get customers engaged with us. There were days when all we did was either sit and meditate or just talk, talk, talk! ⁣ ⁣ Any sale amount was a booster shot and even a minor increment in sales, a source of celebration. Genesis

Genesis

Well, well, well.. life has moved on and has left us more grey now. Computers were still a rarity in the mid 90s but for us, they were already a necessity!  ⁣ Rising before dawn to have any chance of downloading emails, the local communication officials completely bemused at us installing a fax machine, the list can go on!  ⁣ However, as you see, documentation remained an integral part of our work. Arriving in Kotagiri, in early 1995, taking time to organize an office, accommodation (office by day, house by night), it set the foundation for the work to follow!
